Spread the Holiday Cheer - Help Needed to Open Gladiator Store on Mon 12/19

The Gladiator Store will be opening for a special Holiday Shopping Day on Monday 12/19.

We need volunteers to help with set-up and running the store to allow student the opportunity to buy gifts and prizes before the Winter Break. Help spread the Christmas cheer and holiday magic!

It's honestly one of the most fun & rewarding volunteer experiences of the year! Students love to be generous and work really heard to select & buy their gifts for loved ones! <3

Thank you for your help!

How to Volunteer at Northrup

Calling all volunteers! Your help is needed to help with on-campus events and activities. Several parents have had questions about how they can be involved in volunteering on-campus. To help make the process easier, we've gathered some information from the school and District. Please direct all questions to the school (info later in the post) since they are in charge of the process. If volunteering on-campus is not for you, the PTA also offers off-campus volunteer activities (e.g., preparing & planning for events, etc.). We'd love to volunteer with you!

If you're interested in on-campus volunteering...Read on!

AUSD volunteer clearance is needed to help with on-campus events. These include large school-wide events (e.g., Dodger Day, Trick-or-Treating, Lunar New Year, etc.), grade-level events (e.g., class parties, special activity days, etc.), or classroom events.

To promote school safety and health, the District requires volunteers to submit:
  • AUSD Volunteer Form
  • Photo ID (e.g., Driver's License, State ID)
  • Negative TB Test Results
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
  • Completion of Live Scan Fingerprinting/Background check
These items can be submitted to either Maria Venhuda or Jenny Du in the Front Office. They will photocopy everything and submit them to the District for approval. Please note it can take at least a week to be approved. Please contact Ms. Venhuda or Ms. Du in the Front Office if you have any questions about the process or items required for clearance.

PTA members - You may apply for reimbursement of your Live Scan Fingerprinting costs if you complete 30 hours of volunteering with PTA events.
Not a member? You can still join the PTA and apply for the reimbursement! Visit: jointotem.com/ca/alhambra/wm-northrup-parent-teacher-association-inc/join/register

Below, we've included links to needed documents and services. Please note that we are not endorsing or recommending any specific sites or vendors.

Gladiator Store Volunteers Needed - Tue 11/8 & Thu 11/10

The Gladiator Store (Glad Store) is coming... and we need volunteers!

Throughout the year, students earn Glad Bucks when they do things that Respect Individuals, Self & Staff, and Environment (RISE). These are a part of the school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) program which supports and encourages positive student behavior. At the Glad Store, students can redeem their hard-earned Glad Bucks for prizes. They LOVE it!

The school has asked us for help recruiting volunteers to run the Glad Store on Tue 11/8 & Thu 11/10. Shifts are available from 7:30AM - 2:45 PM. Most shifts are 1 hour long.

Volunteers must have AUSD volunteer clearance to be on-campus. If you've had clearance in the past, it's easy to renew your access. Getting clearance for the first-time can take some time, but can be worth the time and effort. We'll share more about volunteer clearance in another post. In the meantime, questions about volunteering can be directed to either Jenny Du or Maria Venhuda in the Northrup Front Office.

Thank you for your help! This is a fun opportunity to encourage students in pursuing positive behaviors.

Teacher Mini Grants - Coming Soon!

Each year, the PTA offers teachers the opportunity to apply for extra funds to buy classroom resources or offer class activities and enrichment. ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿงฌ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“˜
Your support & fundraising makes the Mini-Grant program possible! So as we launch this year's Mini-Grants program, we'll be taking a look back at some of the projects funded last year.
Our teachers used the funds in amazing ways! Today we're sharing photos from the 2nd graders' science enrichment activities. The teachers used PTA funds to bring-in 2 days of hands-on activities that reinforced what students were learning in science. So much fun!

The 5th grade teachers also reinforced their social studies lessons with a special Colonial Day! Students were able to engage in activities like the colonialists - calligraphy writing with quill & ink, games with marbles & yarn, dining practices & much more. Most importantly, bringing historical learning to life makes learning fun & memorable!

Many thanks to our teachers who plan and put on these amazing events! And thank YOU for taking the time to support the school through PTA fundraisers, activities & volunteering! It truly makes a difference for our students!
